Taurine, also known as 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, is a
nonessential amino acid. It is the most abundant free amino acid in many
tissues and is manufactured by other amino acids such as cysteine, vitamin B6
and methionin. Vegetarians tend to be at
risk for lower levels of L-Taurine because it
is commonly found in food sources, such as meat and dairy products, which are
not included in the vegetarian diet
